BEST VALUE
~$2,197 — under half the FX3's price for a full-frame internal-RAW body; the card's outright value champion.
INTERNAL RED RAW
Records 12-bit REDCODE RAW (R3D NE) internally up to 6K 60p — RED's own format and color science, after Nikon acquired RED.
RUNS SINGLE-HANDED
Unlike the Blackmagic bodies it adds IBIS and dependable autofocus — usable solo without a focus puller.
KIT IN THE BOX
Industry-first internal 32-bit float audio plus a bundled 4-inch DCI-P3 monitor — a near-complete one-person rig out of the box.
FULL-FRAME LOOK
24.5MP full-frame partial-stacked sensor — shallow depth of field and the full field of view, not a Super 35 crop.
PROVEN DEMAND
Became Amazon's #1-ranked full-frame camera shortly after its January 2026 launch.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

Its dynamic range trails the field. At ~12-13 stops the ZR sits a stop or so behind the FX3 (15+) and the DGO Canon bodies (16+), and it pairs that with a smaller battery and a video-first UI you have to learn.

Traps — this verdict avoids

Trap 01

The body is half the cost

Body-only price is only the start — a real shooting rig (cage, top handle, monitor, V-mount battery, ND filters, media) adds $1,500-$3,500 on top. Budget the system, not the body.

Trap 02

Blackmagic has no autofocus

The Pocket 6K G2, Cinema Camera 6K and PYXIS 6K have only contrast-detect single-shot AF — no continuous video AF. Manual focus or a paid focus-puller is required for serious narrative work.

Trap 03

ND filters aren't optional

Only the Canon C70 has built-in ND in this list. Every other body needs $200-$800 in screw-on or matte-box NDs just to shoot daylight at a cinematic 180-degree shutter.
