MAC-NATIVE
Thunderbolt 5 at 120 Gbps daisy-chains up to four displays from a single port — third-party monitors are still on Thunderbolt 4.
WEBCAM BUILT IN
A 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View — no external webcam clamped to the top.
ROOM-FILLING AUDIO
A six-speaker system with Spatial Audio and a three-mic array — unmatched by any third-party display.
BRIGHT PANEL
600 nits brightness at P3 wide color for photo and design review.
DESK SIMPLICITY
One Thunderbolt cable delivers 96W of power and carries camera, speakers and mic — zero desktop accessories.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

You're paying a $600 premium for the same 5K panel. The BenQ MA270S delivers identical 218-PPI 5K over Thunderbolt 4 for $999 — the Studio Display's extra money buys the camera, speakers and Thunderbolt 5, not a sharper image. It's also Mac-only: no Windows or Linux support.

Dealbreaker? Runner-up №1 is the same 5K panel for $600 less ↓

Traps — this verdict avoids

Trap 01

The 4K softness tax

macOS is sharpest only at native 2× Retina scaling — 5K at 27 inches and 6K at 32 inches both hit 218 PPI, but 4K at 27 inches lands at 163 PPI and forces non-integer scaling that leaves text visibly softer. Buy the resolution your screen size actually needs.

Trap 02

Underpowered USB-C drains the battery

USB-C Power Delivery has to match your Mac — a MacBook Pro 14-inch needs 70W+, the 16-inch needs 96W+, a MacBook Air wants 30–45W. An underpowered monitor drains the battery while it's plugged in instead of charging it.

Trap 03

The Thunderbolt tax

Thunderbolt 4/5 monitors cost $200–600 more than an equivalent USB-C display, and it only pays off if you actually daisy-chain a second display, move 40+ Gbps of data, or dock peripherals over one cable. Most single-monitor desks never use it.
