Nits you will never see
In a fully dark room, peak brightness above 1,000 nits is already sufficient for dramatic HDR. The $2,998 Sony Bravia 8 II peaks at 1,930 nits and the $1,198 Samsung S90F at ~1,200 — both are equally, perfectly black.
Mini-LED still blooms
The best Mini-LED sets here floor at 0.01 nits (Hisense U7SG, 960 dimming zones) and 0.02 nits (TCL QM6K) — close to OLED, but not zero. Bright objects still halo on a black background, and viewing angles narrow off-axis.
The size-panel lottery
The Samsung S90F is QD-OLED only in 55, 65 and 77 inches — the 42, 48 and 83-inch sets are WOLED with different color. The Sony Bravia 8 II exists in 55 and 65 inches only. The size you buy changes the panel you get.
