The catch — co-equal billing, always

It's motion-only. To hit $50 the D210 drops vehicle and package detection and runs plain motion alerts — and you still have to buy the microSD card yourself. The wired D130 adds full detection for about the same money.

Traps — this verdict avoids

Trap 01

The card you still have to buy

"No subscription" rarely means "free storage" — a microSD card is NOT included on most models (Tapo, Wyze, base Reolink). Budget $20-45 for a Class-10/U1/U3 256-512 GB card. Only the eufy E340 (8 GB built-in) and Lorex (32 GB included) record out of the box.

Trap 02

No subscription still isn't no cloud

Push-notification thumbnail previews on eufy, Tapo and Wyze still route a small image through the vendor cloud. If you want zero cloud touch at all, only a fully local NVR/NAS setup like the wired Reolink truly avoids it.

Trap 03

Battery and wiring reality

Battery doorbells need a recharge every 2-8 months; wired models won't work without an existing 16-24VAC transformer. And most battery models are 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only — a weak front-door signal degrades video and delays alerts.
