LIGHTEST TO WEAR
285g — lighter than most PCVR rivals; comfort for long sim-racing or flight-sim sessions.
STEAMVR NATIVE
Natively SteamVR-compatible with 7,000+ PC VR titles — no platform workarounds.
NO BASE STATIONS
Four onboard cameras do inside-out tracking — nothing external to mount on the wall.
SHARP ENOUGH
1832×1920 per eye LCD with a 120 Hz mode — flagship optics aren't the point, comfort is.
STILL BUYABLE
In active production — unlike the discontinued HP Reverb G2, you can order one new.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

It doesn't work on its own. The E4 is tethered PCVR — no standalone mode — and it needs a gaming PC with at least an RTX 3070 / RX 6800 XT to hit native-resolution frame rates. Buy it only if you already own that PC.

Dealbreaker? Runner-up №2 — the Quest 3S — is fully standalone, no PC required ↓

Every product has a catch. Verdicts that hide it are how bad buys happen.

Traps — this verdict avoids

Trap 01

The hidden PS5 tax

The PSVR2 looks like a $369 bargain, but it only works plugged into a PlayStation 5 — without a PS5 the real entry cost is ~$900. The $59.99 PC adapter adds SteamVR but kills eye tracking, foveated rendering, and headset haptics.

Trap 02

PCVR isn't standalone

The HP Reverb G2 and DPVR E4 don't work on their own — they need a gaming PC with at least an RTX 3070 / RX 6800 XT for native-resolution frame rates. No PC, no VR.

Trap 03

Chasing a discontinued deal

The headsets buyers still ask for are often gone: Meta's April 2026 hike pushed the Quest 3 to $599 (over the ceiling), the HP Reverb G2 is discontinued and sold out, and the Pico 4 Ultra (~$549) isn't sold in the US. Shop today's real sub-$500 field, not last year's.
